Reprise is a visual proposition about cars, speed, mechanics, love chemistry, road fog, Siamese twins, and fatal accidents. It is based on the staging of people subjected and immersed in the pressure and suffocation caused by the speed of our actions and daily acts. Incomplete and infinite repetition actions that contaminate and compress our living space, leaving behind the trail of a fragmented, desolate, chaotic and apocalyptic landscape.
The project is proposed as a model of transdisciplinary, intensive and disposable creation, and investigates the integration of new scenic languages in the visual arts, or the discourse of contemporary art as a true lifeline that allows us to escape from the tics and limits of art conventional scenic. The starting point is residual materials, remains and waste from other large, inappropriate and disproportionate superproductions, impossible to make profitable. Surpluses from our cultural industries and our consumer economies. Materials that are added to others rescued from the automobile industry, coming from car scrap yards, mechanical workshops and racing circuits. Materials or residues that are the basis for some “low tech” tunes of baroque imagination that the director and his technical team practice on the bodies of the performers.
It is presented as a making off of a video recording where not only the performers are the protagonists of the action, but the director, technicians and the audience are also part of a scene where everything is in constant movement and renewal until arriving to exhaustion, delirium or sudden death. This vertiginous increase in speed afterwards causes immobility. A transit zone between hypervelocity and hyperimobility.
Reprise is the rethinking of a scenic project open to the public and their active participation in the actions, with the intention of avoiding the choreography and the representation of some characters. The action moves under opposite parameters that add up: horizontal / vertical, center / periphery, slow / fast, love / hate. A work-in-progress explored as an assembly line where duplicate situations are created where everything is ordered and unraveled, built and destroyed, obsessively, tenacious and dizzying, to derive in images that refer to the pictorial paintings of great battle scenes.
